Enabling Klarna

Configure Klarna credentials, test the hosted payment flow in Playground, and prepare your Nevuto store for live payments.

Updated

Add Klarna under Settings > Payments to offer it at checkout. Customers choosing Klarna continue to its hosted payment page, then return to your store. Verify the complete payment result before treating an order as paid.

Before you start

  • Sign in as the store owner or with a staff account allowed to manage Payments. Staff without that permission cannot open the Klarna settings form.
  • Have the Klarna API credentials for your merchant account and the environment you intend to use. Start with Playground, Klarna's test environment.
  • Check Klarna's availability for your store currency in the provider picker. This guide uses USD examples.
  • Confirm that the business country in your store's general settings matches your merchant setup. Credentials must also belong to the correct Klarna region.

For a US merchant setup, use a United States business country and the matching North American Klarna credentials. Nevuto chooses the API region from the store's business country; a customer's address does not switch the merchant's credential region. See Klarna's region and environment guide.

Open the Klarna setup

  1. Open Settings > Payments.
  2. Click Add payment, then Add payment provider.
  3. Search for Klarna in Enter payment method. Clear a category filter if it hides the result.
  4. Select the Klarna card to open its setup form.

If Klarna is already configured, open its row in Payments or choose Manage from its three-dot menu . Selecting a provider card opens the form; it does not finish connecting the account. Select any screenshot to view it at full size.

Enter the matching API credentials

Obtain the merchant API credential pair from your Klarna portal or merchant support. Klarna supports username/password clients; its current credential format can supply a matching username/UUID and an API key used as the password. Use the pair supplied together for your account. See Klarna's authentication guide.

Match the values to these Nevuto fields:

  • API username: The username paired with your live merchant API credential.
  • API key: Its corresponding live API password/key.
  • Sandbox API username, inside Sandbox mode: The username for your Playground credential.
  • Sandbox API key: Its corresponding Playground API password/key.

Use both values from the same credential, merchant region and environment. The API username is separate from the email address used to sign in to the portal. Keep the API key private and out of screenshots, shared documents and support messages.

Configure Playground testing

  1. In the Klarna form, find Configure API keys and expand Sandbox mode.
  2. Enter the Playground username in Sandbox API username.
  3. Enter its matching API password/key in Sandbox API key. Leave the live fields empty if you are setting up only testing.
  4. Turn on Enable sandbox mode.
  5. Turn on Enable payment status when you want Klarna offered at checkout during the test.
  6. Review Payment Limits.
  7. Click Submit in the upper-right corner and wait for the result. Resolve any error before continuing.

After a successful first setup, Nevuto returns to Payments. Reopen Klarna to confirm the stored settings. The Payments table shows Active or Inactive status separately from Sandbox or Live mode.

This screenshot is an unsaved example. All credential fields are intentionally empty and payment status is off. Enter your own Playground credentials and review payment status before submitting.

Saving does not prove that Klarna accepts the credentials or can complete a payment. Verify the hosted checkout in Playground. Enabling sandbox mode and enabling payment status are separate settings.

Verify the hosted checkout

Use Klarna's sample customer data for the United States test market and follow its end-to-end testing guide. Use Playground credentials and test customer data throughout the test.

After saving the test configuration:

  1. Create a test cart in your storefront and continue to checkout with the intended US billing details and currency.
  2. Confirm Klarna is offered for the cart, select it and continue to its hosted payment page.
  3. Complete the appropriate Playground scenario using Klarna's current sample data.
  4. Return to Nevuto and inspect the order's payment state.
  5. Check the corresponding order and payment/capture state in the matching Klarna Playground portal.
  6. Test cancellation and an unsuccessful scenario too. Returning from Klarna alone is not proof that money was collected.

Warning The payment options and approval shown to the customer must be verified in that checkout flow. An Active badge in Nevuto is a configuration status, not a guarantee of a particular payment plan or an approved purchase.

Set payment limits

Payment Limits controls the cart amounts for which Klarna is offered. Turn it on and enter Minimum Cart Amount and Maximum Cart Amount in the store currency shown beside the fields. The minimum must not exceed the maximum.

Tip The $50–$500 range is a prepared example, not a recommended range or a saved store setting. Turning limits off removes your custom amount range; Klarna's own requirements still apply. Click Submit after changes and reopen the form to confirm they were saved.

Switch to live payments

Once your Playground flow is verified and your Klarna merchant account is ready:

  1. Open Settings > Payments and open Klarna.
  2. Enter the live credential pair in API username and API key.
  3. Expand Sandbox mode and turn off Enable sandbox mode.
  4. Confirm Enable payment status, the merchant country/region and Payment Limits.
  5. Click Submit and wait for a successful result.
  6. Confirm Payments shows Klarna as Active with Live mode.

The Playground pair remains in its separate fields. The sandbox toggle selects which environment and credential pair Nevuto uses. Test credentials and live credentials are not interchangeable.

Edit or deactivate Klarna

Open Klarna from Payments to update the credential pair, mode or limits. Submit is disabled until the form has changes. After submitting, reopen the form and confirm both the provider settings and limits, especially if an error appeared during saving.

To stop offering Klarna, turn off Enable payment status and submit. The configured row's three-dot menu also offers Deactivate for an active method and Activate for an inactive one. Review checkout to confirm the resulting options.

Deactivation does not cancel existing orders or refund payments.
